Illuminated by changing LED lights near the entrance to the Richmond Olympic Oval is Ice Blade, an art installation that shimmers at night and leaves a deep impression on visitors to the Oval. The sculptor Buster Simpson was inspired by speed skaters. Ice Blade asserts a tipping stance taken by a speed skater at the starting line. Simpson wants to remind people that no matter how fast we take off, we are still skating on thin ice and must not become nonchalant and content.
