Honouring Our Fisheries Heritage - Steveston's Legacy

The three figures depicted in the sculpture Steveston's Legacy represent three aspects of the fishing industry. An old fisherman sits at his net mending bench chatting with a young tenderman who unloads the catch and a cannery worker on her break. They represent the diversity of the industry – men and women, old and young, and the importance of the fishing industry to the residents of Steveston back in the day. BC sculptor Norm Williams had dreamed of building a sculpture for and about Steveston when he was studying in Steveston Secondary School in the 60s. After almost 50 years, his dream finally came true and the sculture was unveiled in front of the historic Gulf of Georgia Cannery.
