The scenery at Vancouver’s Sunset Beach is picture perfect. Two diamond rings created by Dennis Oppenheim rise to about 30ft on the grassy slop beside the beach. The rings resemble a large picture frame, capturing the moment of a couple in love. “As a commentary on the precarious balances in marriage, that of the romantic, traditional, economic and the illusions inherent in the institution, the meaning of Engagement is intentionally open-ended. Oppenheim often declines to interpret or explain his work, leaving the interpretation to the viewer.”
